Hidma fought for his love. After waiting for 2 years, Raje finally accepted his proposal. But this story contains as much fear as it does romance. Hidma’s love story was as unique as his crimes.
The Beginning: A Letter of Love
The story begins with a letter. Hidma wrote to Raje, expressing his feelings. Initially, Raje rejected him, but Hidma did not give up. After 2 years of persistent effort, Raje finally agreed.
Fear in the Jungle and Hidma’s Name
For the last two decades, the notorious Naxal commander Madvi Hidma’s terror spread like wildfire in the Dandakaranya forests. A reward of 1 crore was announced for his head, and his hands were stained with the blood of hundreds.
After the Karegutta operation, due to increasing pressure from the forces, Hidma’s wife Raje wanted to surrender, but Hidma refused. Finally, on November 18, in a clash with forces in Aluri Sitaram Raju district of Andhra Pradesh, both husband and wife were killed.
Hidma and Raje’s Naxal Love Story
Hidma and Raje’s love story was widely discussed within the organization. Fellow Naxal commanders revealed that Raje initially rejected Hidma’s proposal. After 2 years of persistence, she finally accepted.
Due to the strict rules of the Naxal organization, Hidma underwent sterilization before marriage, and they got married.
First Meeting and the Love Letter
Hidma and Raje first met at a Naxal meeting. Hidma became infatuated with Raje, but she rejected him. Undeterred, Hidma wrote her a love letter and kept in contact for 2 years.
Eventually, they got married. At the time of marriage, Hidma was 25–27 years old, and Raje was 20–22. During that period, Naxalism in Bastar was at its peak, and the Salwa Judum had already begun.
Naxals from Bastar, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana attended the wedding. This marriage is still considered one of the most discussed events within the Naxal organization.
Organizational Responsibilities
Due to responsibilities within the Naxal organization, Hidma and Raje were posted in different areas. In 2009, Hidma was made deputy commander of the first PLGA battalion, and Raje became a teacher in the same battalion.
From 2007 to 2022, Hidma carried out more than 26 attacks in Bastar, killing over 300 soldiers and civilians. In 2023–24, he was appointed a central committee member of the Naxal organization. Continuous encounters and surrenders increased pressure on the Naxal group.
The End: Love and Fear in the Jungle
Hidma repeatedly refused his wife’s pleas to surrender, choosing to remain steadfast under the strict rules of the organization. On the Chhattisgarh–Andhra Pradesh border, security forces killed the most-wanted Naxal Madvi Hidma and his wife Raje in an encounter.
This was not just a victory for law enforcement but also the end of a terrifying yet fascinating Naxal love story. The couple, who spent years hiding in the jungle together, presented a unique mix of terror and love.
